Aim: To develop an electromyography method for pregnant rat uterus in vivo and to separate myometrial signals from the gastrointestinal tract signals.
Methods: Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats (n=8) were anaesthetized and their stomach, small intestine, and large intestine were removed from the abdomen. A pair of thread electrodes was inserted into the uterus, while a pair of disk electrodes was placed subcutaneously above the myometrium.

We hypothesized that maternal nutrient restriction starting at the time of breeding would influence placental vascular development and gene expression of angiogenic factors during the first 50 d of gestation in beef heifers. Commercial Angus crossbred heifers ( = 49) were maintained on a total mixed ration and supplemented with dried distillers grains with solubles. All heifers were subject to 5-d CO-Synch + CIDR estrous synchronization protocol, AI to a single Angus sire, and randomly assigned to dietary treatments.

This paper presents the results of 16,592 pregnancy diagnoses in 4086 gilts and 12,506 sows. The animals were scanned transcutaneously between days 20 and 110 after mating or insemination (m/i). Animals being obviously pregnant or nonpregnant were scanned once, whereas sows which could not be recognized definitely as pregnant or not were characterized as animals with equivocal status and examined once again seven to 14 days later.

The present study examined several aspects of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R) in the mouse uterus during the peri-implantation period and after ovarian hormone treatment of adult ovariectomized mice. The cell-specific distribution, regulation of expression, and binding kinetics were assessed by immunohistochemistry, Northern blot analysis, and ligand binding assays, respectively. Affinity cross-linking studies ascertained the size of the EGF-R, and its bioactivity was examined by determining EGF-dependent subcellular protein tyrosine kinase activity and receptor autophosphorylation.

Stereological techniques were used to quantify ultrastructural changes in the caruncular epithelium during the pre- (Day 13), peri- (Day 16) and post- (Days 19 and 22) attachment periods of placentation. Tissues from Day-13 non-pregnant ewes were used as controls. Uteri for stereological evaluation were perfused via the uterine artery with 3% glutaraldehyde and separated into proximal, middle and distal regions.
