BACKGROUND IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic fibro-inflammatory disease potentially affecting every part of the human body. Because of variability in clinical presentation, IgG4-RD can be challenging to diagnose. Untreated disease can lead to irreversible organ damage such as fibrosis.

Protective effect of trehalose on sperm chromatin condensation failure and semen quality decline in BDE-209-exposed mice.

Food Chem Toxicol

December 2024

Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • BDE-209 exposure leads to male reproductive toxicity characterized by a decline in sperm quality, but the impact of autophagy in this process was not well understood.
  • The study evaluated the protective effects of trehalose (Tre), an autophagy inducer, on reproductive damage during sperm development (spermiogenesis) caused by BDE-209 using a mouse model.
  • Results showed that Tre improved various sperm qualities and reduced testicular damage, likely by restoring normal autophagy pathways via AMPK-ULK1 signaling, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for addressing male reproductive toxicity.

MOE Joint International Research Laboratory of Animal Health and Food Safety and Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095, PR China. Electronic address:

Duck hepatitis A virus type 1 (DHAV-1) is a significant pathogen affecting ducklings, capable of causing rapid mortality and adversely impacting the development of the duck industry. Matrine, the primary active ingredient in various Chinese herbal medicines, has demonstrated antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Nevertheless, the effects and mechanisms of action of matrine against DHAV-1 infection remain unclear.

The presence of neutrophil infiltration around the pancreatic ducts has been found to be associated with type 2 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). However, the functional role and clinical significance of neutrophil migration in the progression of pancreatitis is not fully understood. Here, we found that neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are abundant around the pancreatic duct in patients with type 2 AIP.
