Unlabelled: Omadacycline, an aminomethylcycline tetracycline, has a low propensity to cause infection (CDI) in clinical trials. Omadacycline exhibited a reduced bactericidal effect compared with vancomycin on key microorganisms implicated in bile acid homeostasis and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), key components of CDI pathogenesis. The purpose of this study was to assess bile acid and SCFA changes in stool samples from healthy volunteers given omadacycline or vancomycin.

Therapeutic potential of isoallolithocholic acid in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus peritoneal infection.

J Antibiot (Tokyo)

December 2024

Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Xinhua Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

A significant increase in multidrug-resistant Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections has made it crucial to explore new antimicrobial drugs and strategies. Emerging evidence suggests that the bile acid metabolite isoallolithocholic acid (isoallo-LCA) may contribute to reducing the risk of infection among centenarians. However, its precise role remains somewhat ambiguous and necessitates further investigation.

Multi-omics profiling reveals the molecular mechanisms of HO-induced detrimental effects on Thamnaconus septentrionalis.

BMC Genomics

October 2024

Observation and Research Station of Bohai Strait Eco-Corridor, Ministry of Natural Resources, First Institute of Oceanography, Qingdao, 266061, China.

Background: Hydrogen peroxide (HO), a novel water treatment agent, can be used for disinfection, water quality adjustment, and disease prevention, while excessive HO can injure farm animals, even leading to death. Hydrogen peroxide is a recommended disinfectant and bactericide for treating gill diseases and vibriosis in the greenfin horse-faced filefish Thamnaconus septentrionalis. However, its cumulative effect, toxic molecular mechanism and relevant signal transduction/metabolic networks in marine fishes are largely unknown.

Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) assays are often questioned for their representativeness. Especially when foodborne pathogens are tested, it is of crucial importance to also consider parameters of the human digestive system. Hence, the current study aimed to assess the inhibitory capacity of two antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and tetracycline, against Salmonella enterica and Listeria monocytogenes, under representative environmental conditions.
