Chronic ethanol dependence and withdrawal activate corticotropin releasing factor (CRF)-containing GABAergic neurons in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), which tightly regulate glutamatergic pyramidal neurons. Using male CRF1:GFP reporter mice, we recently reported that CRF1-expressing (mPFC) neurons predominantly comprise mPFC prelimbic layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons, undergo profound adaptations following chronic ethanol exposure, and regulate anxiety and conditioned rewarding effects of ethanol. To explore the effects of acute and chronic ethanol exposure on glutamate transmission, the impact of chronic alcohol on spine density and morphology, as well as persistent changes in dendritic-related gene expression, we employed whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology, diOlistic labeling for dendritic spine analysis, and dendritic gene expression analysis to further characterize mPFC and mPFC prelimbic layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons.

The urocortin 1 (UCN1)-expressing centrally projecting Edinger-Westphal (EWcp) nucleus is influenced by circadian rhythms, hormones, stress, and pain, all known migraine triggers. Our study investigated EWcp's potential involvement in migraine. Retinal degenerative diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, significantly contribute to adult blindness. The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rat is a well-established disease model for studying these dystrophies; however, molecular investigations remain limited. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of retinal degeneration in RCS rats, including an immunodeficient RCS (iRCS) sub-strain, using ocular coherence tomography, electroretinography, histology, and molecular dissection using transcriptomics and immunofluorescence.

Although the single atom electrocatalysts have been demonstrated as efficient catalysts for promoting LiS/NaS formation and decomposition in Li-S/Na-S batteries, the functional morphological and structural engineering capable of exposing more active sites is regarded as an essential factor to further enhance the catalytic activity. Here, we have synthesized a single atomically dispersed Fe sites embedded within hollow nitrogen doped carbon cages (Fe-N-HCN) using FeO spheres as an oxidant and sacrificial template, which is used as a high-efficiency catalyst for boosting the reversible capacity of MoS anode in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). As expected, the electrochemical reaction of MoS/Fe-N-HCN anode exhibits higher reversibility than pure MoS electrodes.
