Objective: Whereas a scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) is important for diagnosing epilepsy, a single routine EEG is limited in its diagnostic value. Only a small percentage of routine EEGs show interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) and overall misdiagnosis rates of epilepsy are 20% to 30%. We aim to demonstrate how network properties in EEG recordings can be used to improve the speed and accuracy differentiating epilepsy from mimics, such as functional seizures - even in the absence of IEDs.

Objective: To examine and synthesize the literature on the use of universal developmental screening and surveillance tools in high-income countries in relation to (1) psychometric properties; (2) knowledge, acceptability, and feasibility of tools; and (3) follow-up taken following screening/surveillance.

Method: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review was performed in the PsychInfo, PubMed, and Embase databases. Studies published in the English language were included if they reported results evaluating a universal developmental screening or surveillance measurement tool.

Radiomic signatures of brain metastases on MRI: utility in predicting pathological subtypes of lung cancer.

Transl Cancer Res

December 2024

Department of Radiology, Shanghai Chest Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Background: The pathological sub-classification of lung cancer is crucial in diagnosis, treatment and prognosis for patients. Quick and timely identification of pathological subtypes from imaging examinations rather than histological tests could help guiding therapeutic strategies. The aim of the study is to construct a non-invasive radiomics-based model for predicting the subtypes of lung cancer on brain metastases (BMs) from multiple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences.

Former studies have established that individuals with a cochlear implant (CI) for treating single-sided deafness experience improved speech processing after implantation. However, it is not clear how each ear contributes separately to improve speech perception over time at the behavioural and neural level. In this longitudinal EEG study with four different time points, we measured neural activity in response to various temporally and spectrally degraded spoken words presented monaurally to the CI and non-CI ears (5 left and 5 right ears) in 10 single-sided CI users and 10 age- and sex-matched individuals with normal hearing.

LiNbO domain structures have been widely applied in nonlinear beam shaping, quantum light generation, and nonvolatile ferroelectric memory. The recent developments in nanoscale domain engineering techniques make it possible to fabricate sub-diffracted nanodomains in LiNbO crystal for high-speed modulation and high-capacity storage. However, it still lacks a feasible and efficient way to characterize these nanoscale domains.
