Introduction: As airway liquid is cleared into lung interstitial tissue after birth, the chest wall must expand to accommodate this liquid and the incoming air. We examined the effect of applying external positive and negative pressures to the chest wall on lung aeration in near-term rabbit kittens at risk of developing respiratory distress.
Methods: Rabbit kittens (30 days; term ∼31 days) were randomised into and groups.

Objective: To define the incidence of ventriculostomy-associated infections and their impact on the mortality and functional outcomes of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Methods: We prospectively included all consecutive adult aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage patients admitted to the neurological intensive care units of the Instituto Estadual do Cérebro Paulo Niemeyer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Hospital Cristo Redentor (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) who required external ventricular drains from July 2015 to December 2020. Daily clinical and laboratory variables were collected at admission and during the hospital stay.

Organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs) are crucial in defining the operational modes and performance of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). However, studies on the design and structure-performance correlations of small-molecule n-type OMIECs remain scarce. Herein, we designed and synthesized a series of naphthalene diimide (NDI)-based n-type small molecules by extending π-conjugation and increasing the number of electron-withdrawing groups, achieving performance optimization and even changes in operational modes through structural regulations.

Background: The optimal duration of external ventricular drain (EVD) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is debatable. We sought to determine the association of EVD duration and output with outcomes, including cerebral infarct.
Methods: We performed a retrospective study of a prospectively collected cohort of consecutive patients with aSAH who were admitted to an academic center from 2016 to 2023.

Aim: To assess the changes of intracranial pressure waveforms (ICPW) acquired noninvasively in a set of acute hydrocephalus patients prior to and posterior to interventions.
Material And Methods: Patients with clinical and radiological diagnosis of hydrocephalus were evaluated for alterations in ICPW by means of a system that detects cranial micro expansions just before and immediately after interventions. The system quantified the difference between ICPW peaks (P1 and P2), providing the P2/P1 ratio.
