Breastfeeding provides essential nutrition and disease protection for infants while reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and breast cancer in mothers. Despite these benefits, significant racial and ethnic disparities exist in breastfeeding initiation, particularly among Black women. This study examines racial differences in the receipt of breastfeeding information from varying sources and their association with breastfeeding initiation.

The association between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio and delirium in ischemic stroke patients.

Front Med (Lausanne)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burn, and Combined Injury, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Precision Neuromedicine and Neuroregenaration, Department of Neurosurgery, Southwest Hospital, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, China.

Background: Delirium is a severe neuropsychiatric symptom following acute ischemic stroke (IS) and is associated with poor outcomes. Systemic inflammation and immune dysregulation are believed to contribute to the pathophysiology of delirium. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) are widely recognized as convenient and reliable biomarkers of systemic inflammation.

Exploring the role of inflammatory biomarkers in trigeminal neuralgia.

Brain Behav Immun Health

February 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, People's Hospital of Zhengzhou University, People's Hospital of Henan University, Zhengzhou, Henan, 450003, China.

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a severe facial pain disorder with complex etiology. Inflammation has been suggested as a contributing factor to TN pathogenesis. This study investigates the causal relationship between inflammatory biomarkers, including 41 circulating inflammatory cytokines, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT), and TN using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.

Circulating growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) increases in response to inflammation and tissue damage. Its association with functional prognosis in cerebral infarction and subarachnoid hemorrhage is established; however, its role in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and its relationship with Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, an indicator of systemic organ damage in TBI, remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the correlation between GDF-15 and functional outcomes at discharge in patients with TBI and stroke, including its association with SOFA scores in TBI.

Introduction: The risk of kidney fibrosis is significantly elevated in individuals with diabetes, chronic nephritis, trauma, and other underlying conditions. Concurrently, human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) and their extracellular vesicles (MSC-Exos) have gained prominence in regenerative medicine. In light of these observations, we are undertaking a meta-analysis to elucidate the influence of hUCB-MSCs and MSC-Exos on kidney fibrosis.
