The present study reports a single-center experience conducted at Józef Struś Multispecialty City Hospital in Poznań, Poland, in diagnosing and treating two patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), one immunocompetent and one immunodeficient (AIDS). PCNSL is an extremely rare neoplasm with a poor prognosis and non-specific treatment on the basis of immunocompetency. Standard treatment consists of high-dose methotrexate (HD-MTX) being the background of a multimodal therapy, including other chemotherapeutic agents with and without radiation.

The versatile properties of carbohydrate polymers make them a relevant, promising precursor to design innovative materials for use in biomedical applications. Recent research mainly focuses on the development of the polysaccharide based functional materials. Hydrogel derived materials are a source of great motivation for the development of drug delivery (DD) carriers with inherent therapeutic potential.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a widely used antimetabolite drug, mainly used in the treatment of a variety of cancer. Given the low therapeutic index and significant individual variability of MTX, it was critical to perform therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to minimize the side effects. Here, we designed a rapid and sensitive fluorescence/colorimetric assay for the detection of MTX in diluted human serum.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a severe skin reaction caused by extensive epidermal and mucosal necrosis. This clinical phenomenon is known as an acute syndrome of apoptotic pan-epidermolysis (ASAP). The ASAP phenomenon is observed in conditions that mimic TEN, highlighting the challenge in distinguishing these conditions.
