Coordinates of caesium ions in DNA crystalline B-form were obtained by X-ray study of CsDNA with the use of synchrotron radiation. In conformity with the model that well meets the obtained set of structure factor amplitudes, the cations are located rather close to diad axes lying between the planes of successive nucleotide pairs. The cations in the narrow groove touch DNA surface, while those in the wide groove are rather far from the DNA molecule.

The article discusses the use of mathematical models and linear algebra to understand the crystalline structures and interconversion pathways of drug complexes with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). It involved the preparation and analysis of mixtures of indomethacin, diclofenac, famotidine, and cimetidine with β-CD using techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR). Singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis is used to identify the presence of different polymorphs in the mixtures of these drugs and β-CD, determine interconversion pathways, and distinguish between different forms.

Optically active liquid-crystalline dispersions (LCD) of nucleic acids, obtained by polymer- and salt-induced (-) condensation, e.g., by mixing of aqueous saline solutions of low molecular weight DNA (≤10 Da) and polyethylene glycol (PEG), possess an outstanding circular dichroism (CD) signal (so-called -CD) and are of interest for sensor applications.

The DNA in the left-handed conformation (Z-conformation) was first discovered by A. Rich, who revealed the crystalline structure of a DNA oligomer d(GC) by X-ray diffraction method. Later it was also found that DNA molecules change their conformations from typical right-handed form (B-DNA) to the left-handed form (Z-DNA) under specific conditions (B-Z transition).

The melting transition of A- and B-DNA has been investigated by wide-angle X-ray diffraction. A significant crystalline phase is present in both the systems, even if the fibers have not been artificially aligned. The behavior of the intramolecular Bragg peaks of both A- and B-DNA as a function of the temperature clearly reveals the unfolding structural transition of the double helix.
