Background & Objectives: Orientia tsutsugamushi, a bacterial pathogen of scrub typhus, is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected chigger mites, and rodents are the natural hosts of the disease vector. The traditional practices of the tribal ethnic groups (Mizo) of Mizoram state such as capturing and consumption of rat meat collected from the agricultural fields could be one source of vector-disease transmission route. The present study aimed to detect and identify the pathogen of scrub typhus from vectors collected from rice field rats which were captured by farmers for meat consumption purposes.

Background: Picornaviruses, common infectious agents in humans and various animal species, pose significant health threats. Conventional monoplex PCR is widely employed in laboratory diagnostics but is relatively time-intensive and laborious.
Results: In this study, we developed a multiplex TaqMan probe-based real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay for the rapid and simultaneous detection of kobuvirus, parechovirus B, rosavirus B and hunnivirus in murine rodent and shrew samples.

Alcohol consumption can lead to the accumulation of harmful metabolites, such as acetaldehyde, contributing to various adverse health effects, including hangovers and liver damage. This study presents a comprehensive genomic and functional analysis of Leuconostoc suionicum VITA-PB2, a lactic acid bacterial strain isolated from kimchi, to elucidate its role in enhancing alcohol and acetaldehyde metabolism. Genomic characterization revealed key genes encoding alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), providing insights into the metabolic capabilities of strain VITA-PB2.
