Article Synopsis
  • Surfactants, especially non-ionic ones, are crucial in pesticide formulations, improving effectiveness without altering solution properties like pH, but piperidinium surfactants with carbamate fragments might enhance efficacy more than conventional non-ionic types.
  • The study evaluated new piperidinium surfactants’ performance in enhancing imidacloprid, demonstrating that a 0.1% concentration substantially reduces the lethal dose required to combat the greenhouse whitefly pest.
  • Results indicate that these surfactants boost imidacloprid's effectiveness by increasing its concentration on leaf surfaces and aiding its penetration into plants, demonstrating their potential as effective adjuvants in pest control.

Bacillus genera, especially among rhizobacteria, are known for their ability to promote plant growth and their effectiveness in alleviating several stress conditions. This study aimed to utilize indigenous Bacillus cereus PM38 to degrade four organophosphate pesticides (OPs) such as chlorpyrifos (CP), profenofos (PF), monocrotophos (MCP), and dimethoate (DMT) to mitigate the adverse effects of these pesticides on cotton crop growth. Strain PM38 exhibited distinct characteristics that set it apart from other Bacillus species.

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are a family of ligand-gated ion channel receptors that contribute to cognition, memory, and motor control in many organisms. The pharmacological targeting of these receptors, using small molecules or peptides, presents an important strategy for the development of drugs that can treat important human diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. The acetylcholine binding protein (Ac-AChBP) is a structural surrogate of the nAChR with high homology to the extracellular ligand binding domain of homopentameric nAChRs.

In recent times, usage of pesticide, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers in farming lands has made the environment worse. The pesticide residues and toxic byproducts from agricultural lands were found to contaminate the aquatic ecosystem. The misuse of synthetic pesticide not only affects the environment, but also affects the health status of aquatic organisms.

Pesticides are an indispensable part of modern farming as it aids in controlling pests and hence increase crop yield. But, unmanaged use of pesticides is a growing concern for safety and conservation of the environment. In the present study, a novel biosurfactant-producing bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa S07, was utilized to degrade carbofuran pesticide, and it was obtained at 150 mg/L concentration; 89.
