Rapid Tryptophan Assay as a Screening Procedure for Quality Protein Maize.

Molecules

September 2024

Integrated Centre of Environmental Science Studies in the North East Region-CERNESIM Centre, Institute of Interdisciplinary Research, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, 11 Carol I, 700506 Iasi, Romania.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid deficient in cereals, especially maize. However, maize ( L.) is the main source of protein in some developing countries in Africa and Latin America.

Objective: To investigate the role of vitamin D analogue paricalcitol in activating vitamin D receptor/glutathione peroxidase 4 (VDR/GPX4) pathway in ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI).

Methods: Twenty-four male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group, high tidal volume (HVT) induced VILI model group (HVT group), paricalcitol control group (P group), and paricalcitol pretreatment group (P+HVT group), with 6 mice in each group. The mice were endotracheal intubated and ventilated at 40 mL/kg tidal volume to prepare VILI model, while those in the control group were intubated without ventilation.

Extraction and Electrophoretic Analysis of Bacterial Lipopolysaccharides and Outer Membrane Proteins.

Bio Protoc

December 2021

Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Long Island University, Brookville, NY, United States.

Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) (or lipooligosaccharides [LOS], which lack the O-antigen side chains characteristic of LPS), and outer membrane proteins (OMP) are major cell-surface molecules in the outer membrane (OM) of gram-negative bacteria. The LPS is responsible for causing endotoxic shock in infected hosts and, in conjunction with some OMPs, provides protection to the bacterium against host innate immune defenses and attachment to host cells. Electrophoretic analysis can provide valuable information regarding the size, number, and variability of LPS/LOS and OMP components between bacterial strains and mutants, which aids in understanding the basic biology and virulence factors of a particular species.

A UHPLC-MS/MS Method for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Aciclovir and Ganciclovir in Plasma and Dried Plasma Spots.

Biomedicines

October 2021

Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Section, Central Laboratory of Analysis, IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini, 16147 Genoa, Italy.

The role of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of valaciclovir (VA)/aciclovir (A) and valganciclovir/ganciclovir (VG/G) in critically ill patients is still a matter of debate. More data on the dose-concentration relationship might therefore be useful, especially in pediatrics where clinical practice is not adequately supported by robust PK studies. We developed and validated a new liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) micro-method to simultaneously quantify A and G from plasma and dried plasma spots (DPS).

Sterol analysis of complex matrices can be very laborious. To minimize the existing drawbacks, a new micro-method of sterols and squalene determination in cyanobacteria was developed and applied to monitor their production of Phormidium autumnale cultured heterotrophically. Sample extraction/saponification and GC analysis of the target compounds were optimized separately using Plackett-Burman design (PB) followed by a central composite rotational design (CCRD).
