Ionic conductive hydrogels (ICHs) have recently gained prominence in biosensing, indicating their potential to redefine future biomedical applications. However, the integration of these hydrogels into sensor technologies and their long-term efficacy in practical applications pose substantial challenges, including a synergy of features, such as mechanical adaptability, conductive sensitivity, self-adhesion, self-regeneration, and microbial resistance. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel hydrogel system using an imidazolium salt with a ureido backbone (UL) as the primary monomer.

The acute toxic effects of platinum nanoparticles on ion channels, transmembrane potentials of cardiomyocytes in vitro and heart rhythm in vivo in mice.

Int J Nanomedicine

Key Laboratory of Cellular Physiology (Shanxi Medical University), Ministry of Education, Department of Physiology, Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, People's Republic of China.

Background: Platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) have been considered a nontoxic nanomaterial and been clinically used in cancer chemotherapy. PtNPs can also be vehicle exhausts and environmental pollutants. These situations increase the possibility of human exposure to PtNPs.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers screened 113 SSS patients and 125 controls for specific genetic polymorphisms related to angiotensinogen (AGT) and connexin 40 (Cx40), finding a significant link between certain AGT promoter polymorphisms and the disease.
  • * The findings suggest that the G-6A polymorphism in the AGT promoter impacts gene expression and may increase susceptibility to non-familial SSS, highlighting the importance of genetic factors in the condition's development.

(-) Epicatechin rich foods and (-) epicatechin improve cardiovascular function. Consumption of diets rich in flavonoids is associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. Oxidative stress resulting from increased production of free radicals associated with decreased levels of antioxidants in the myocardium plays a major role in the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction.

Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTEACS). Intensive statin therapy reduces the recurrence of cardiovascular events after acute coronary syndromes. The aim of this study was to examine nuclear factor-kappa B activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and leukotriene B4 levels, and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity in plasma from patients with NSTEACS (at 0 days, 4 days, 2 months, and 6 months), patients with stable coronary artery disease, and healthy controls.
