Article Synopsis
  • Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer, especially in Caucasians, and typically does not spread widely.
  • A 71-year-old man with a history of skin cancer presented with an alarming left axillary mass, but after a biopsy, it was found that the BCC had spread locally but not necessarily metastasized to distant sites.
  • Follow-up PET scans consistently showed no further disease progression, leading to the conclusion that the tumor is likely a recurrent primary BCC extending to nearby tissues rather than a metastatic cancer.

Objective: Endovenous closure of truncal veins with a large diameter (LD) (≥8 mm) has been associated with higher risk of post ablation thrombus propagation into the deep venous system. Similar findings after Varithena microfoam ablation (MFA) have not been characterized. The study objective was to analyze outcomes after both radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and MFA and of LD truncal veins.

Introduction: The use of electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) systems to capture PRO data in clinical trials is increasing; however, their feasibility, acceptability and utility in clinical trials of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) are not yet well understood. This protocol describes a qualitative study that aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of ePRO data capture using a trial-specific ePRO system (the PROmics system) within an advanced therapy trial involving patients with immune-mediated inflammatory disease (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and Crohn's disease).

Methods And Analysis: This protocol for a remote, qualitative, interview-based feasibility study is embedded within the POLARISE trial, a single-arm, phase II, multisite ATMP basket trial in the UK.

Background: Vascular malformations of the head and neck are common. The management of these lesions is complex and challenging due to the high complication rate and recurrence following treatment. Palatal vascular malformations (PVMs) are infrequent and present as slow growing lesions in the palate with recurrent bleeding and pain.
