Karyotype diversity in cultivated and wild Indian rice through EMA-based chromosome analysis.

J Genet

February 2022

Department of Botany, Maulana Azad College, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Kolkata 700 013, India.

India is known for its diverse cultivated and wild rice germplasm. In today's crop improvement programmes, wild relatives are much-needed genetic repository of valuable traits. Analysis of genetic diversity at the chromosomal level is one cost-effective tool to unlock foundational information related to genetics and plant breeding.

Integrated Microscopy and Metabolomics to Test an Innovative Fluid Dynamic System for Skin Explants .

Microsc Microanal

August 2021

Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement Sciences, Section of Anatomy and Histology, School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Verona, Verona37134, Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • * This study introduces a modified bioreactor that allows for the use of explanted skin samples in a fluid dynamic environment, improving the experimental conditions to better mimic living skin.
  • * Results show that this new system enhances the structural and functional preservation of skin samples, making it a reliable method for testing new transdermal drugs while reducing the need for animal testing.

Tissue clearing has become a powerful technique for studying anatomy and morphology at scales ranging from entire organisms to subcellular features. With the recent proliferation of tissue-clearing methods and imaging options, it can be challenging to determine the best clearing protocol for a particular tissue and experimental question. The fact that so many clearing protocols exist suggests there is no one-size-fits-all approach to tissue clearing and imaging.

A Simplified Brain Blocking Protocol Optimized for the Diagnosis of Neurodegenerative Disease Saves Time and Money While Preserving Anatomic Relationships.

Arch Pathol Lab Med

August 2021

the C.S. Kubik Laboratory for Neuropathology, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School, Boston (Frosch, Martinez-Lage, Samore, Hedley-Whyte).

Context.—: Postmortem evaluation for neurodegenerative disease is expensive in time and materials. These challenges can be met by implementing simpler sampling protocols while preserving anatomic relations.

Seed oil traits in soybean that are of benefit to human nutrition and health have been selected for during crop domestication. However, these domesticated traits have significant differences across various evolutionary types. In this study, we found that the integration of evolutionary population structure (evolutionary types) with genome-wide association studies increased the power of gene detection, and it identified one locus for traits related to seed size and oil content on chromosome 13.
