Introduction: There is increasing prevalence of single-use flexible laryngoscopes in Otolaryngology. This study aims to quantify and compare the environmental outcomes of single-use disposable flexible laryngoscopes (SUD-Ls) and reusable flexible laryngoscope (R-Ls).
Methods: The ISO 14040 standardized Life Cycle Assessment (LCAs) was utilized to estimate the environmental footprint of SUD-L and R-L.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a common chronic pain with no established treatment. Acupuncture is an expected treatment for FM though a diagnosis of FM tends to be delayed, and the advantage is still unclear in early-phase intervention with acupuncture treatment for FM. A 51-year-old woman with panic disorder presented with a four-month history of whole-body pain and was diagnosed with FM.

Silver, as the oldest antibacterial material, has been almost replaced by other alternatives for its insufficient activity or potential side-effects on the ecosystem due to the over-release of Ag ions (Ag). Herein, a facile and general strategy is developed to on-substrate fabricate silver coordination polymer nanowire arrays (Ag CPN) by simply immersing Ag-containing substrates into cationic surfactant solution at room temperature. Such a Ag CPN not only provides high-surface-area nano-biointerfaces for destroying microorganisms via physicomechanical interactions but also acts as a safe Ag reservoir, steadily releasing Ag at a relatively high but safe level (∼40 ppb, but lower than the safe level of 100 ppb).

Background: The healthcare sector in the United States has increased its greenhouse gas emissions by 6% since 2010 and today has the highest per capita greenhouse gas emissions globally. Assessing the environmental impact and material use through the methods of life cycle assessment (LCA) and material flow analysis (MFA) of healthcare procedures, products, and processes can aid in developing impactful strategies for reductions, yet such assessments have not been performed in orthopaedic surgery. We conducted an LCA and an MFA on an ACL reconstruction (ACLR).

Introduction: Increasing emissions of greenhouse gases contribute to climate change. The healthcare sector, and particularly the operating room, is a significant emitter of greenhouse gases. In head-and-neck surgery, pediatric procedures are very common, but few studies have assessed their ecological impact.
