The trained heart adapts through geometric changes influenced by concentric and eccentric hypertrophy, depending on the predominance of the isometric or dynamic components of the exercise performed. Additionally, alterations in heart rhythm may occur due to increased vagal system activity. Cardiological evaluation with an electrocardiogram (ECG) aims to identify cardiac conditions that could temporarily or permanently disqualify an athlete from competition.

Chagas disease (CD), a parasitic infection, may have ocular repercussions in its cardiologic form, since a history of heart disease of other etiologies already has been established as a risk factor for neuropathies and maculopathies. The aim of the present study was to investigate preclinical structural and vascular optic nerve head (ONH) and macular parameters in patients with chronic CD. Nineteen patients with CD and 19 healthy subjects were evaluated with optical coherence tomography, optical coherence tomography angiography, and Laguna ONhE® software.

The multitarget oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor sorafenib is an effective first-line treatment option in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Through its mechanism of action, it has been associated with cardiotoxicity, mainly hypertension, which is usually low-grade and well-managed with behavioral changes and antihypertensor treatment adjustment, if needed. Acute, symptomatic heart failure is rarely described.

Introduction: Large artery atherosclerosis is a relevant cause of ischemic stroke. Beyond carotid artery stenosis ≥ 50%, causative in etiological classification of stroke, non-stenosing plaques are an increasingly reported cause of stroke with embolic pattern.
Methods: We are presenting the case of a 56 years old woman presenting with a first symptomatic multifocal ischemic stroke in the right internal carotid artery (ICA) territory on 2018 and a finding of asymptomatic past vascular injury in the same vascular territory on neuroimaging studies.

Aims: (i) Investigate the prevalence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in individuals with pathogenic/likely pathogenic (P/LP) gene variants detected through family cascade testing in relatives, and (ii) evaluate phenotypic progression in genotype-positive phenotype-negative (G+/P-) individuals during follow-up.
Results: From 2000 to 2023, 273 individuals underwent cardiologic evaluation following P/LP variant detection through family screening. Upon initial evaluation, HCM was diagnosed in 128 (47 %) individuals.
