Procyanidin B3 is a natural flavonoid composed of two catechins connected via a C4α-C8' bond. The couplings of catechin derivatives, promoted by Lewis acids, have been widely applied to the syntheses of procyanidin B3 and related flavonoids because the reactions construct the C4α-C8' bond in a highly stereo- and regioselective manner. However, the structural complexity of the catechin derivatives has complicated the exploration of a detailed mechanism for this selectivity.

The green and efficient preparation of natural products from biomass is considered an important area of interest in pharmaceutical applications. In this study, we aimed to provide a practical example with a popular traditional Chinese medicine, Anemarrhenae Rhizome, and showcase the orthogonal use of column chromatography with polyamide and macroporous adsorption resins to selectively concentrate and efficiently purify four bioactive compounds: neomangiferin (NMF), mangiferin (MF), timosaponin B-II (TS B-II), and timosaponin A-III (TS A-III). First, polyamide T60-100 was employed to fractionalize the crude extracts of Anemarrhenae Rhizome.

Simple models are needed that effectively test the variables that may be important in liver preservation. Two such models are isolated hepatocytes and tissue slices. In this study the effects of hypothermic preservation on the viability of hepatocytes (HC) and tissue slices (TS) from rat livers were measured by LDH leakage after cold storage and rewarming.
