Synthetic packaging materials offer cost efficiency and performance but pose environmental risks. This study explores sustainable alternatives by developing k-carrageenan (KC) films functionalized with curcumin, using solid dispersions (SDs) to improve curcumin's compatibility, addressing the challenge of incorporating hydrophobic functionalities into hydrophilic film matrices. Films with varying curcumin content (1-20 wt%; KC1-KC20) were compared to a base film without curcumin (KC0) regarding water solubility, vapor permeability, water contact angle, and tensile properties.

The aim of this study was to explore whether and how KC1 can enhance the growth performance of (MG)-infected broilers. Broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups: the control group (basal diet), the MG group (basal diet + MG challenge), the KC group (basal diet + KC1 supplementation), the KC + MG group (basal diet + KC1 supplementation + MG challenge). The results showed that, compared to the control group, MG group exhibited significantly reduced body weight and average daily gain, and increased feed conversion ratio of broilers.

Dendritic cells (DCs) present an ideal target for delivering immunogenic cargo due to their potent antigen-presenting capabilities. This targeting approach holds promise in vaccine development by enhancing the efficiency of antigen recognition and capture by DCs. To identify a high-affinity targeting peptide binding to rabbit DCs, rabbit monocyte-derived DCs (raMoDCs) were isolated and cultured, and a novel peptide, HS (HSLRHDYGYPGH), was identified using a phage-displayed peptide library.

Evapotranspiration is a key hydrological process for reducing stormwater runoff in bioretention systems, regardless of their physical configuration. Understanding the volumes of stormwater that can be returned to the atmosphere via evapotranspiration is, therefore, a key consideration in the design of any bioretention system. This study establishes the evapotranspiration dynamics of three common, structurally different, bioretention vegetation treatments (an Amenity Grass mix, and mono-cultures of Deschampsia cespitosa and Iris sibirica) compared with an un-vegetated control using lab-scale column experiments.
