Ultramicro pipettes with circular orifices have practically become common probes in exploring the microscopic world, yet the versatility of differently shaped pipettes is undermined in the pore family. Herein, ultramicro triangular pipettes with a pseudotriangular-shaped orifice were fabricated by laser-pulling triangular quartz capillaries and characterized by microscopic and electrochemical methods. Then, the differences in the electrochemical behaviors of triangular and circular pores were revealed through experiments and simulations.

Formalin-fixed tissues possess irreplaceable value as a source of DNA for identification, especially when fresh samples are unavailable. Nonetheless, extracting and amplifying DNA from these tissues is challenging, primarily due to formaldehyde-induced cross-linking and nucleic acid fragmentation. In this study, two pre-extraction treatments, gradual dehydration using ethanol and pre-digestion heat treatments, and three DNA extraction methods, the Chelex-100 method, TIANamp FFPE DNA Kit, and ML Ultra-micro DNA extraction kit, were utilized to optimize DNA extraction from different tissues, which were fixed in 4% unbuffered formalin for different durations.

Compared with ordinary emulsified cosmetics, liquid crystal emulsified cosmetics have obvious advantages. In this paper, an ultra-micro liquid crystal (ULC) emulsion with particle size less than 4 μm was successfully synthesized using a simple oil-in-water emulsification method, and large liquid crystal (LLC) and non-liquid crystal (NLC) emulsions were also prepared as controls. Three kinds of emulsions were examined by polarizing microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM).

In extremely dark conditions, low-light imaging may offer spectators a rich visual experience, which is important for both military and civic applications. However, the images taken in ultra-micro light environments usually have inherent defects such as extremely low brightness and contrast, a high noise level, and serious loss of scene details and colors, which leads to great challenges in the research of low-light image and object detection and classification. The low-light night vision image used as the study object in this work has an excessively dim overall picture and very little information about the screen's features.

Objective: This study aims to identify sources of parasitic capacitance in high-density neural electrode arrays and to provide an approach for evaluating their associated capacitance values. We also represent the effect of parasitic capacitance on the electrochemical properties of electrodes.
Methods: Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and voltage transient (VT) measurements were employed to assess the parasitic capacitance of a 16-channel ultramicro-sized electrode array (UMEA) (8×25 μm2 electrode sites).
