January 2025

Department of Otology Medicine, Shandong Provincial ENT Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan250022, China.

To analyse the 3D-Flair MRI manifestations of the inner ear, vestibular function status, and their correlation with hearing treatment outcomes in patients with severe sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), and to explore potential prognostic indicators for sudden deafness. The clinical data of adult patients with unilateral profound sudden sensorineural hearing loss were retrospectively analyzed in Otorhinolaryngology Department of Shandong Provincial ENT Hospital from March 2018 to August 2020. Patients were categorized based on the results of their inner ear 3D-Flair MRI into two groups: the normal MRI group and the abnormal MRI group.

While soundscapes shape the structure and function of auditory systems over evolutionary timescales, there is limited information regarding the adaptation of wild fish populations to their natural acoustic environments. This is particularly relevant for freshwater ecosystems, which are extremely diverse and face escalating pressures from human activities and associated noise pollution. The Siamese fighting fish is one of the most important cultured species in the global ornamental fish market and is increasingly recognized as a model organism for genetics and behavioural studies.

Endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) are rare, slow-growing, and locally aggressive neoplasms that originate from the epithelial lining of the endolymphatic duct and sac. These are characterized by their infiltrative growth pattern and the potential for local destruction of surrounding structures, including the inner ear and temporal bone. We report a case of an incidentally diagnosed sporadic ELST.

The dripper clogging due to the development of biofilm can reduce the benefits of micro-irrigation technology implementation using reclaimed wastewater. The narrow cross-section and labyrinth geometry of the dripper channel enhance the fouling mechanisms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the water distribution and biofouling of drip irrigation systems at the field scale during irrigation with treated wastewater.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma is a destructive ear infection that can damage bones and lead to serious complications if untreated.
  • A study with 12 patients evaluated their symptoms and audiological status before and after surgery, focusing on otorrhoea, hearing loss, and vertigo.
  • Results showed that 91.7% of patients preserved their hearing post-surgery, and no one experienced hearing loss due to medical intervention; the study also suggested using advanced MRI techniques for better diagnosis of ear conditions.
