The appearance of petechiae and ecchymoses following anticoagulant and fibrinolytic therapy is an unusual and rare complication. The mechanism of the vasculitis is obscure but may be related to a chemical vasotoxic reaction. During anticoagulant and fibrinolytic therapy, 6 patients developed petechiae and ecchymoses which was accompanied by pain and fever. There were no disturbances of blood clotting factors. In spite of the varied action of the different anticoagulants and fibrinolytic drugs, the clinical course and the histological examination demonstrated a similar identical vasculitis.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune condition characterized by a reduced platelet count due to enhanced peripheral destruction and impaired platelet production. While thrombocytopenia is a well-documented complication of various viral infections, cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the Herpesviridae family, is primarily associated with infections in immunocompromised patients and is rarely implicated in causing severe thrombocytopenia in immunocompetent patients. This article aims to highlight the importance of considering CMV as a significant etiological factor in ITP, particularly in cases of asymptomatic thrombocytopenia.

Osteopetrosis is a rare systemic skeletal disorder characterized by increased bone density and mass resulting from suboptimal or impaired resorption of osteoclastic bone. Compromised bone marrow function and associated disorders of red blood cells contribute to hematopoietic abnormalities, which exacerbate the risk of complex, recurrent infections such as jaw osteomyelitis. This case report describes the treatment of a 68-year-old Korean female with autosomal-dominant osteopetrosis who presented with severe and persistent jaw osteomyelitis complicated by hematopoietic dysregulation.

When an understanding of pathogenesis exists, skin lesions that have the appearance of blood in the skin can provide insight into the mechanisms leading to a systemic process that results in cutaneous manifestations. Of the vascular disturbances of the skin that occur in critically ill patients, some result from a non-hemorrhagic process while occurs represent bleeding into the skin. The lesions of livedo, petechiae, purpura, and ecchymoses can be approached from such a perspective.

Background: The treatment of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a major clinical challenge and has a significant impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and prolonged use of corticosteroids may have a negative impact on HRQoL.
Objectives: To evaluate the impact of ITP on HRQoL and complications of corticosteroid treatment in patients with ITP in two teaching hospitals in Ethiopia.
Methods: The institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from November 15, 2022, to March 15, 2023, to recruit 214 study participants during the study period (4 months).
