Background/purpose: The local inflammatory microenvironment created by periodontitis negatively impacts periodontal tissue regeneration, necessitating the development of methods to enhance the regenerative capacity of stem cells. This study explored the regulatory role and underlying mechanism of miR-508-5p in the osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs).
Materials And Methods: The regulatory roles of miR-508-5p in osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs were investigated through its inhibition or overexpression.

Background: : The metabolic by-product butyric acid of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria can invoke pathological effects on periodontal cells resulting in inflammation and further destruction of periodontium. However, limited researches on the effects of butyric acid on cementoblasts were reported. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the type of cell death in murine cementoblast (OCCM.

Background: Sparsentan, a dual-acting antagonist for both the angiotensin II receptor type 1 and the endothelin receptor type A, has emerged as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Following the publication of the PROTECT trial, sparsentan recently received approval for the treatment of IgAN in Europe. However, it remains uncertain whether an additive effect can be observed in the context of existing treatment with sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, given that the PROTECT study did not investigate this dual therapy approach.

Glioma stem cells (GSCs) in the hypoxic niches contribute to tumor initiation, progression, and recurrence in glioblastoma (GBM). Metabolic pathways are altered in GSCs under hypoxia, but the mechanism underlying the altered one-carbon metabolism in GSCs by hypoxia is largely unknown. Here, we report that hypoxia induces down-regulation of DHFR as well as up-regulation of MAT2A in GBM tumorsphere cells, and confers them the ability of cell proliferation that is independent of exogenous folate.

The aberrant aggregation of the human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is a hallmark of type II diabetes. LL37, the only cathelicidin host-defense peptide in humans, plays essential roles in antimicrobial and immunomodulatory activities. Mounting evidence indicates that LL37 can inhibit the amyloid aggregation of hIAPP, suggesting possible interplays between infections and amyloid diseases while the mechanism remains unclear.
