Discrete statistical systems offer a significant advantage over systems defined in the continuum, since they allow for an easier enumeration of microstates. We introduce a lattice-gas model on the vertices of a polyhedron called a pentakis icosidodecahedron and draw its exact phase diagram by the Wang-Landau method. Using different values for the couplings between first-, second-, and third-neighbor particles, we explore various interaction patterns for the model, ranging from softly repulsive to Lennard-Jones-like and SALR.

Acid rain can significantly undermine the structural integrity and seismic resilience of concrete structures, posing substantial risks of catastrophic failures and jeopardizing safety. However, studies on the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns affected by acid rain corrosion remain nascent. Therefore, this study explored the impact of acid-rain corrosion extent and axial compression ratio on the seismic behavior of RC columns that experienced flexural failure using an artificial rapid corrosion method and pseudo-static test in sequence.

Among the large family of spin-crossover (SCO) solids, recent investigations focused on polynuclear SCO materials, whose specific molecular configurations allow the presence of multi-step transitions and elastic frustration. In this contribution, we develop the first elastic modeling of thermal and dynamical properties of trinuclear SCO solids. For that, we study a finite SCO open chain constituted of successive elastically coupled trinuclear (A=B=C) blocks, in which each site (A, B, and C) may occupy two electronic configurations, namely, low-spin (LS) and high-spin (HS) states, accompanied with structural changes.

Speeding crashes remain high injury severities after the stay-at-home order in California, highlighting a need for further investigation into the fundamental cause of this increment. To systematically explore the temporal impacts of the stay-at-home order on speeding behaviors and the corresponding crash-injury outcomes, this study utilizes California-reported single-vehicle speeding crashes on freeways (access-controlled) and non-freeways (non-access-controlled) before, during, and after the order. Significant injury factors and in-depth heterogeneity across observations are identified by random parameter logit models with heterogeneity in means and variances.

The retention and mobility of arsenic (As) in soil depend on various physical and chemical factors. The knowledge of the sorption-desorption chemistry of As in soil is necessary for predicting the fate and behavior of As in soil environments. Therefore, this study assessed different organic (sugarcane bagasse and vermicompost) and inorganic amendments (steel slag and fly ash) for their impact on sorption-desorption of As in texturally different contaminated soils (of sandy clay (SC) and sandy clay loam (SCL) texture) to understand the effect of amendments on As retention and mobility.
