A 66-YEAR-OLD female requiring cardiac surgery had persisting anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4)/heparin antibodies (HIT-abs) 8 years after heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). In 2010, she developed thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) (ADAMTS-13 <5%, inhibitor at 1.0 BU/mL), which was treated successfully with corticotherapy, plasmapheresis, and intravenous heparin.

Elastomers are widely used because of their large-strain reversible deformability. Most unfilled elastomers suffer from a poor mechanical strength, which limits their use. Using sacrificial bonds, we show how brittle, unfilled elastomers can be strongly reinforced in stiffness and toughness (up to 4 megapascals and 9 kilojoules per square meter) by introducing a variable proportion of isotropically prestretched chains that can break and dissipate energy before the material fails.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between oxytocin (OT) and male infertility, serum OT baseline concentration and oxytocin receptor (OTR) gene expression in fertile and infertile men were investigated.

Methods And Patients: Twenty obstructive azoospermia patients, twenty five idiopathic asthenozoospermia patients, twenty idiopathic oligozoospermia patients and twenty healthy subjects were taken into consideration. Serum OT baseline concentration was determined by radioimmunoassay.
