Formaldehyde (FA) is a pervasive environmental organic pollutant and a Group 1 human carcinogen. While FA has been implicated in various cancers, its genotoxic effects, including DNA damage and DNA-protein crosslinking, have proven insufficient to fully explain its role in carcinogenesis, suggesting the involvement of epigenetic mechanisms. Histone post-translational modifications (PTMs) on H3 and H4, critical for regulating gene expression, may contribute to FA-induced pathogenesis as lysine and arginine residues serve as targets for FA-protein adduct formation.

: The pulmonary administration of antibiotics can be advantageous in treating pulmonary infections by promoting high intrapulmonary drug concentrations with reduced systemic exposure. However, limited benefits have been observed for pulmonary administration versus other administration routes due to its rapid clearance from the lung. Here, the effects of structural modifications on the epithelial permeability and antibacterial potency of a third-generation cephalosporin were investigated to improve the understanding of drug properties that promote intrapulmonary retention and how they may impact efficacy.

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have shown great promise in environmental protection, owing to their exceptional properties including ultrahigh surface area and porosity, tunable pore size, and easy chemical functionalization. However, emerging evidence from experimental studies indicates that MOFs have side effects on human health due to metal ions doping, resulting in excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, pro-inflammatory responses, and liver fibrosis. In this study, we investigated the impact of MOF-199 on human bronchial epithelial (HBE) cells by using transcriptome sequencing analysis.

Little is known about how exclusive e-cigarette use affects exosomal microRNA (miRNA) expression, which is crucial in inflammation and disease processes like cancer. We compared exosomal miRNA profiles between exclusive e-cigarette users and non-users. We used plasma samples from 15 exclusive e-cigarette users and 15 non-users from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Wave 1 study (2013-2014) and sequenced miRNAs with Illumina NextSeq 500/550.

Swimming produces many psychophysiological effects, including blood, hormonal, enzymatic, pulmonary, cardiovascular and energetic adaptations. However, asthma and allergies are becoming increasingly prevalent medical issues among elite endurance-trained swimmers, where exercise-induced asthma or bronchospasm is frequently reported. Heavy endurance swimming training, especially under adverse conditions, stresses the airway mucosa, leading to inflammatory changes, as observed in induced sputum in competitive swimmers.
