Nine varieties of lotus root (, , , , , , , , and ) were selected as the research materials to compare their differences in physical, chemical, and starch characteristics before and after boiling, frying, and microwaving. The results showed that , , , , and belong to the crispy lotus root type, while , , , and belong to the powdery lotus root type. Furthermore, the nine varieties were characterized for their starch by optical micrograph (OM), polarized micrograph (PM), scanning electron micrograph (SEM), attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), carbon-13 cross-polarization/magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (C CP/MAS NMR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Guanine (G) hydrogels are very attractive materials made by the supramolecular organization of G-derivatives in water. In this paper, hydrogels composed of guanosine 5'-monophosphate (GMP) and guanosine (Gua), that make long, flexible and knotted G-quadruplexes, were investigated by small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) to comprehend the origin of their unique orientational properties. The SAXS intensity, analysed at a fixed scattering vector modulus as a function of polar angle, allowed us to derive the Maier-Saupe orientation parameter .

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites comprising hypophosphite ligands are emerging functional materials exhibiting magnetic, photoluminescence, negative thermal expansion and negative linear compressibility behaviours. This work reports five novel hypophosphite perovskites, [A]M(HPOO) (A = pyrrolidinium (PYR), guanidinium (GUA) and imidazolium (IM); M = Cd and Co). [GUA]Cd(HPOO), [IM]Cd(HPOO), [GUA]Co(HPOO) and [IM]Co(HPOO) belong to the centrosymmetric trigonal 3̄, monoclinic 2/, monoclinic 2/, and orthorhombic space groups, respectively, while [PYR]Cd(HPOO) crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric orthorhombic space group 2.

A novel helix hydrogel with a G-quartet structure was synthesized from guanosine (Gua) and its derivative 5'-guanosine monophosphate (5'-GMP) under a molecular crowding environment. The chirality of the hydrogel is adjusted by controlling the gelling speed. The chiral hydrogel can induce an achiral dye Thioflavin T (ThT) to realize circularly polarized fluorescence (CPL).

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with the circularly polarized luminescence features have attracted attention to the promising applications ranging from solid-state lighting and displays to bioencoding and anticounterfeiting. The prerequisite of circularly polarized luminescence is highly emissive chiral materials. Here, we demonstrated that (R/S-MBA)CuI·2HO (MBA = α-methylbenzylaminium) and acentric GuaCuI (Gua = guanidinium) single crystals were grown on the basis of GuaCuI by the slow evaporation method.
