Probing the properties of PTEN specific botulinum toxin type E mutants.

J Neural Transm (Vienna)

January 2025

Institut für Zellbiochemie, OE 4310, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, 30623, Hannover, Germany.

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNT) are established biopharmaceuticals for neuromuscular and secretory conditions based on their ability to block neurotransmitter release from neurons by proteolyzing specific soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) proteins. Recently, a mutant catalytic domain of serotype E (LC/E) exhibiting 16 mutations was reported to cleave the phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN). This molecule represents an attractive new target in neurons as several reports support PTEN knockdown as a strategy to stimulate axonal regeneration after injury.

Engineered alginate-polyethyleneimine and sludge-aluminosilicate biochar composites for greywater treatment: Performance evaluation and models for designing pilot-scale systems.

Environ Res

January 2025

Department of Environment Sciences and Engineering, The Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 166 Rosenau, Campus Box # 7431, NC 27599, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. Electronic address:

Greywater, originating from kitchen sinks and toilets, constitutes 75-80 % of the domestic wastewater produced in homes and can be reclaimed for non-potable uses. This study synthesized novel sludge-derived aluminosilicates and alginate-polyethyleneimine (PEI) biochar composites. The aluminosilicates offer a sustainable approach to sludge management, while alginate-polyethyleneimine presents a green biochar modification approach.

Reduced monocytic IL10 expression in PD1 inhibitor-treated patients is a harbinger of severe immune-related adverse events.

Department of Hematology, Oncology and Cancer Immunology, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Corporate Member of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Berlin Institute of Health, Berlin, Germany; German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), Berlin, Germany; Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), Berlin, Germany; Experimental and Clinical Research Center, A Cooperation of Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: Despite remarkable clinical efficacy, little is known about the system-wide immunological alterations provoked by PD1 blockade. Dynamics of quantitative immune composition and functional repertoire during PD1 blockade could delineate cohort-specific patterns of treatment response and therapy-induced toxicity.

Methods: We longitudinally assessed therapy-induced effects on the immune system in fresh whole blood using flow cytometry-based cell quantifications, accompanied by analyses of effector properties of all major immune populations upon cell-type specific stimulations.

People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) carry a considerable risk of developing dementia. Studies have shown that female sex hormones have long-lasting neuroprotective and anti-aging properties, and the increased risk of MCI and AD is associated with the lack of estrogen during menopause. Previous studies have shown that Tiao Geng Decoction (TGD) may have antioxidant and anti apoptotic properties, which may prevent neurodegenerative diseases.

Chitosan- and sodium alginate-coated dendritic mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles improve pesticide adhesion on leaves and enable dual-stimulus-responsive release.

January 2025

Jiangsu Co-Innovation Centre of Efficient Processing and Utilization of Forest Resources, Jiangsu Key Lab for the Chemistry and Utilization of Agro-Forest Biomass, College of Chemical Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing 210037, PR China. Electronic address:

During the application of most conventional pesticides, a significant proportion is lost through rain wash-off and leaf rolling, leading to reduced actual utilization efficiency. In this paper, aminated dendritic mesoporous organosilicon nanoparticles (DMONs-NH) were synthesized via a one-pot method and used as carriers. Carbendazim (CBZ) was then encapsulated within DMONs-NH through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions.
