Hermetia illucens, with a short growth cycle, is promising as a valuable source of chitin. However, the optimal method for extracting chitin from this insect and its application for hemostasis has not been addressed. This work employed an environmentally friendly choline chloride-lactic acid deep eutectic solvent technology to extract chitin effectively from the Hermetia illucens pupae shells, realizing one-step removal of inorganic salts and proteins.

Background: Cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (CAT) is a frequent and serious complication in cancer patients. Resveratrol, a natural compound with reported anti-tumor effects, is not fully understood in its role regarding CAT in lung cancer. This study aims to explore resveratrol's potential to diminish platelet activation induced by lung adenocarcinoma cells and uncover the underlying mechanisms.

Extracorporeal perfusion systems utilized in open-heart surgeries with cardiopulmonary bypass can affect multiple body systems. The primary adverse effects of Extracorporeal Perfusion Systems (EPS) on the hematological system include postoperative bleeding and coagulation issues. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of on-pump time and cross-clamp duration on total platelet count (PLT) and platelet indices in open-heart surgeries performed using cardiopulmonary bypass.

This was hypothesized to depend on their prolonged presence in the vasculature, leading to cytotoxicity. Imaging of NETs (histones, neutrophil elastase, extracellular DNA) with intravital microscopy in blood vessels of mouse livers in a pathogen-replicative-free environment (endotoxemia) led to detection of NET proteins attached to the endothelium for months despite the early disappearance of extracellular DNA.

During the blood coagulation cascade, coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) is activated by thrombin to form activated factor VIII (FVIIIa). FVIIIa associates with platelet surfaces at the site of vascular damage to form an intrinsic tenase complex with activated factor IX. A working model for FVIII membrane binding involves the association of positively charged FVIII residues with negatively charged lipid headgroups and the burial of hydrophobic residues into the membrane interior.
