Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by infection with (). Due to its atypical symptoms and the absence of specific detection methods, Q fever is underdiagnosed commonly. Herein, we report a case of Q fever confirmed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in March 2024 in Guangdong Province, China.

Background: Excessive purine intake increases the risk of hyperuricemia and gout. This study investigates the relationship between purine content in mutton and meat quality traits and explores the regulatory mechanism of purine metabolism through transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses.
Methods: Thirty-six-month-old hybrid sheep (Australian White × Small-tail Han) were selected.

In small ruminants, laparotomy for ovarian exploration followed by oocyte collection has been progressively replaced by laparoscopic puncture of follicles, which has become an important method for obtaining oocytes in vivo. However, the superovulation protocols and collection frequency used for laparoscopic ovum pick-up (LOPU) in sheep still require further investigation. This study explored the factors influencing LOPU efficiency in sheep, including Controlled Internal Drug Release (CIDR) for estrus synchronization, FSH source and dose, and recovery intervals.

MiRNAs regulate follicle development and atresia, steroid production, granulosa cell (GC) proliferation, and apoptosis. However, the target genes and the functioning of novel miRNAs remain unexplored. We reveal the targeting relationship between novel-m0297-5p and and the specific regulatory mechanism of GC proliferation in small-tailed Han sheep using whole transcriptomic sequencing.

The diversity and composition of the gut microbiota are widely recognized as fundamental factors influencing the well-being and productivity of domestic animals. Advancements in sequencing technologies have revolutionized studies in this research field, allowing for deeper insights into the composition and functionality of microbiota in livestock. Ruminants and monogastric animals exhibit distinct digestive systems and microbiota characteristics: ruminants rely on fermentation, while monogastrics use enzymatic digestion, and monogastric animals have simpler stomach structures, except for horses and rabbits, where both processes coexist.
