Recovery of Phenolic Compounds with Antioxidant Capacity Through Solid-State Fermentation of Pistachio Green Hull.

Microorganisms

December 2024

Biotechnology and Bioengineering Laboratory, Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo, Delicias 33089, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Pistachio green hull (PGH) represents the non-edible fraction obtained after the seed is harvested and is an important source of phenolic compounds. Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is a viable biotechnological and economical technique for extracting phenolic compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the SSF with GH1 to recover total phenolic compounds (TPC) with antioxidant capacity (AC) from PGH.

Use of corn carbon as an additive to enhance magnesium metal self-corrosion and recover phosphorus from swine wastewater in the form of struvite.

Environ Res

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Hubei Minzu University, 39 College Road, Enshi, 445000, China. Electronic address:

Recovery of phosphate from swine wastewater is significant for alleviating eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems and addressing the increasing scarcity of phosphorus resources. In this study, a method for phosphate recovery from swine wastewater using corn carbon as an additive and non-dynamic magnesium metal self-corrosion was studied. The effects of reaction time, C:Mg mass ratio, stirring rate, and aeration rate on phosphate recovery were discussed, and eight experimental models were explored.

Preparation and evaluation of ozone micro-nano bubbles ice for Litchi precooling.

Food Chem

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Tropical Fruits and Vegetables Quality and Safety for State Market Regulation, Institute of Food Testing, Hainan Academy of Inspection and Testing, Haikou 570314, China. Electronic address:

Ozone (O) is an effective agent for post-harvest fruit preservation against diverse microorganisms. In this study, a cost-effective ozone micro-nano bubbles ice (O-MNBI) was prepared, characterized, and subsequently used to precool litchi. The optimal protocols for O-MNBI production were as follows: water (2 °C, pH = 7) was pumped into a micro-nano O bubble generator for 10 min aeration treatment.

Resource recovery from wastewater by directing microbial metabolism toward production of value-added biochemicals.

Bioresour Technol

January 2025

Water Research Centre and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Auckland, Auckland 1142, New Zealand. Electronic address:

Dynamic oxygen fluctuations in activated sludge were investigated to enhance valuable biochemical production during wastewater treatment. Batch experiments compared constant aeration with rapid cycling between oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor states. Fluctuating oxygen concentrations (0-2 mg/L) significantly increased production of valuable biochemicals compared to constant oxygen concentration (2 mg/L).
