This prospective, observational cohort study compares the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the modified Weaver and Dunn (WD) technique with the newer, anatomical double-button plus tendon allograft technique (DB), and the suture anchor repair plus tendon allograft (SA). The study cohort includes 53 patients, who underwent surgery for acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation Rockwood type 3, 4 and 5. Patient-reported outcome scores and clinical results, including Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Constant score (CS) results as well as loss of reduction rates on plain radiographs were compared.

The present study focuses on designing mutant peptides derived from the lanthanide binding tag (LBT) to enhance selectivity for trivalent actinide (An) ions over lanthanide (Ln) metal ions (M). The LBT is a short peptide consisting of only 17 amino acids, and is known for its high affinity towards Ln. LBT was modified by substituting hard-donor ligands like asparagine (ASN or N) and aspartic acid (ASP or D) with softer ligand cysteine (CYS or C) to create four mutant peptides: M-LBT (wild-type), M-N103C, M-D105C, and M-N103C-D105C.

Aims: To measure effects between educational attainment and alcohol use as a driver of unequal alcohol-attributable mortality.
Design: Nation-wide cohort study using a longitudinal design, linking data from the 1997-2018 National Health Interview Survey to mortality data of the National Death Index in 2019. The study has an average follow-up time of 10.
A previous study found that a domesticated bacterial group II intron-like reverse transcriptase (G2L4 RT) functions in double-strand break repair (DSBR) via microhomology-mediated end joining (MMEJ) and that a mobile group II intron-encoded RT has a basal DSBR activity that uses conserved structural features of non-LTR-retroelement RTs. Here, we determined G2L4 RT apoenzyme and snap-back DNA synthesis structures revealing novel structural adaptations that optimized its cellular function in DSBR. These included a unique RT3a structure that stabilizes the apoenzyme in an inactive conformation until encountering an appropriate substrate; a longer N-terminal extension/RT0-loop with conserved residues that together with a modified active site favors strand annealing; and a conserved dimer interface that localizes G2L4 RT homodimers to DSBR sites with both monomers positioned for MMEJ.

However, clinical effects have been modest with limited understanding of the neural mechanisms hindering therapeutic advancement of this promising approach.
