Purpose: This paper outlines the commissioning of the Varian (VMS, Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA) Universal Interstitial Cylinder (UIC) applicator set for Ir-192 HDR brachytherapy. The UIC was commissioned for use with CT and MRI and a custom phantom was designed to avoid the introduction of water-like materials into the needle guide tracks. Various marker strands were investigated to determine which allowed the most accurate reconstruction of source positions.

Aging is often associated with changes in social, sexual, emotional and pain functioning, as well as with the increased prevalence of certain psychopathologies. However, the neurodevelopmental basis underpinning these age-related changes remains to be determined. Considering the key roles of oxytocin (OTR) and μ-opioid (MOPr) receptor systems in regulating social, sexual, pain, reward and emotional processing, it seems plausible that they are also implicated in age-related behavioural alterations.

RNA binding proteins (RBPs) are responsible for facilitating a wealth of post-transcriptional gene regulatory functions. The role of an RBP on regulated transcripts can be investigated through a pull-down of the RBP and high-throughput sequencing (HTS) of the associated transcripts. Photoactivatable Ribonucleoside-Enhanced Crosslinking and Immunoprecipitation (PAR-CLIP), is one such pull-down method that isolates, detects, and sequences the cDNA of RBP-associated transcripts.

The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect controls passive nanodrug uptake in tumors, and may provide a high tumor payload with prolonged retention for cancer treatment. However, EPR-mediated tumor uptake and distribution vary by cancer phenotype. Thus, we hypothesized that a companion PET-imaging surrogate may benefit EPR-mediated therapeutic drug delivery.
