The effects of intravenous lidocaine on the refractory periods of the atrium, AV node and right ventricular myocardium were studied using His bundle recordings and the extrastimulus technique with and without atrial and ventricular pacing. The drug was administered in an intravenous bolus dose of 1 mg/Kg followed by an infusion of 100 micrograms/Kg/min. The AH, HV intervals and resting sinus cycle length as well as functional and effective refractory periods of atrium, AV node and right ventricle were measured before and 5 min afrer bolus injection of lidocaine. Neither of the refractory periods nor AH and HV intervals changed significantly following administration of lidocaine. The result of this first study in children is in agreement with previous reports of the effects of lidocaine on the cardiac conduction system in adults.

Background: Refractory corneal edema is the foremost reason for endothelial corneal transplantation (EK) in the world. Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) offer good clinical outcomes. However, human donor tissue is limited in availability and has a complex logistical chain.

Purpose: To assess the effectiveness of split-thickness amniotic membrane (SAM) grafts in achieving closure of refractory or large macular holes (MH).
Methods: This retrospective study reviewed data from patients who underwent surgical repair of MHs using SAM grafts between January 2019 and December 2023. Key parameters, including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and MH size, were evaluated both preoperatively and postoperatively.
Background: Anakinra is an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra). Since IL-1 has been shown to play a key role in the etiology of different autoinflammatory diseases, blocking its pathway has become an important therapeutic target, even in neonates.
Aims: We aimed to report our experience in using anakinra to treat specific neonatal inflammatory conditions.

Multi-refractory immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is not uncommon and associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Although the precise mechanism of ITP is not yet fully understood, a therapeutic approach that relies on using a single agent in each treatment line may not be sufficient in this population. We report the case of a 67-year-old female with long-standing multi-refractory ITP treated with a combination of Daratumumab and Romiplostim who achieved a durable response for more than 42 weeks.
