Introduction: Clinical experience with anti-interleukin (IL)-5 biologic therapies for severe asthma has been increasing, alongside deeper and broader research focusing on the role of IL-5 and the IL-5 targeted mepolizumab. This review aims to provide an update of the evidence on the role of IL-5 and mepolizumab, with discussions of the benefits of mepolizumab and its future potential, to promote the comprehension of the pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches to asthma.

Areas Covered: For this narrative review, we conducted a database search in PubMed and Embase using the keywords 'IL-5' and 'mepolizumab,' focusing on randomized controlled trials and real-world studies up to September 2024.

To assess the changes in epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection among inpatient under 3 months of age with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) in different stages of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A retrospective cohort study was conducted. Clinical data on general condition and laboratory tests were collected from 3 144 RSV-positive LRTI infants less than 3 months of age hospitalized at Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine from January 2017 to January 2024.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations frequently cause patient consultations in both out- and inpatient settings. Macular degeneration is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss, significantly impacting quality of life. To enhance clinical practice and reduce the risk of drug-related macular degeneration, we analyzed drug-related trends using real-world data. Disproportionality analysis of adverse event reports from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS, 2004-2023) identified 67,683 cases involving 1402 drugs.
