The advent of genomics in phylogenetics and population genetics strengthened the perception that conflicts among gene trees are frequent and often due to introgression. However, hybridization occurs mostly among species that exhibit little phenotypic differentiation. A recent study delineating species in Anomaloglossus, a frog genus endemic to the Guiana Shield, identified an intriguing pattern in the A.

Background: Phytochemical flavonoids are widely distributed in the environment and are derived from many anthropogenic activities. The isoflavone genistein is a naturally occurring compound found in soya products that are habitual constituents of the aquafeeds. This isoflavone possesses oestrogenic biological activity and also apoptotic properties.

Most of the reproductive modes of frogs include an exotrophic tadpole, but a number of taxa have some form of endotrophic development that lacks a feeding tadpole stage. The dicroglossid frog genus Limnonectes ranges from China south into Indonesia. The breeding biologies of the approximately 60 described species display an unusual diversity that range from exotrophic tadpoles to endotrophic development in terrestrial nests.

The energetics of endotrophic development, where the nutrition required to complete metamorphosis is provided solely by yolk, has seldom been quantified. The energy cost of development to metamorphosis of the endotrophic Australian frog Geocrinia vitellina was measured using bomb calorimetry and closed-system respirometry. Dry yolk had an energy density of 26.

The Australian moss frog, Bryobatrachus nimbus, oviposits four to 16 large eggs in terrestrial nests constructed in moss or lichen in subalpine regions of southern Tasmania. Nidicolous larvae overwinter beneath snow, reaching metamorphosis without feeding after 395 d, the longest development time known for an endotrophic anuran. However, a few clutches develop more quickly and metamorphose before winter.
