Non-compaction cardiomyopathy (NCCM) or spongy myocardium is a rare type of congenital cardiomyopathy. Visceral leishmaniasis is a protozoal disease caused by and transmitted by the bite of female sand-fly species of , which is common in tropical areas like Sudan. We report a 6-year-old female, presented with a fever of unknown origin, weight loss, anemia that necessitated multiple blood transfusions and had hepatosplenomegaly.

Some clinical signs such as cachexia, alopecia, exfoliative dermatitis, hair loss, and swollen lymph nodes were observed in a one-year-old crossbred male dog living in a rural area of Kirikkale province, Türkiye, was presented to the veterinary clinic by its owner. Anaemia, leucopenia, hyperglobulinemia, and bilirubinemia were detected. Seropositivity was detected using Leishmania IgG/IgM Rapid Test.

Background: In Europe, canine leishmaniasis is commonly caused by Leishmania infantum. Allopurinol is the main drug for long-term management of the disease, and clinical relapses of L. infantum infection treated with this drug are described.

Dogs represent the primary reservoir for Leishmania infantum human visceral leishmaniasis (VL) transmitted through phlebotomine sand flies. Public health initiatives targeting zoonotic VL commonly focus on dogs with severe clinical disease, often in renal failure, as they have previously been considered the most infectious to sand flies. However, more recent studies suggest that dogs with mild to moderate clinical disease may be more infectious than dogs with severe disease.
