While acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) remains clinically critical, the etiology of bleeding and risk factors for mortality remain uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the underlying causes of AUGIB and identify risk factors associated with fatality. A retrospective survey was conducted in a major clinical hospital in Shanghai, where inpatients diagnosed with AUGIB were meticulously collected and analyzed.

Background: Our study examines the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), focusing on the potential impact of acid-suppressive drugs. We also explore changes in gut microbiota and metabolism in patients with both conditions.
Methods: This study included patients from the Department of Gastroenterology, Beijing Shijitan Hospital, between February 2021 and November 2023.

Gastrointestinal bleeding remains a frequent reason for emergency consultations, with a mortality rate that is still worrying despite advances in treatment. The most common cause is gastro-duodenal ulcers, mainly linked to Helicobacter pylori. Unusual causes such as gastroduodenal diverticular haemorrhage, a rare and serious complication, can also be detected during endoscopy.

Objectives: To delineate and understand the genetic variations among strains from Trinidad and Tobago associated with gastric diseases.
Methods: One hundred (n = 100) patients who routinely presented with clinical features suggestive of peptic disease were enrolled in the study and underwent gastroscopy procedures. Biopsy specimens were analyzed using serological and molecular methods.
