SLC17A3 localized to the apical membrane of the renal proximal tubules has been implicated in the urinary excretion of drugs and endogenous/exogenous metabolites transported into the tubules by OAT1 and OAT3. Because SLC17A3 mediates the facilitated diffusion of organic anions, which requires a sensitive and rapid assay, no system has been established to evaluate its transport activity in mammalian cells. In this study, we demonstrated that the exposure of cells expressing click beetle luciferase (bLuc) and SLC17A3 to D-luciferin produces marked bioluminescence, which enables the evaluation of SLC17A3 function.

Sexual spores in mushrooms: bioactive compounds, factors and molecular mechanisms of spore formation.

Arch Microbiol

January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for the Research and Utilization of Plant Resources, Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing, 210014, China.

Throughout the life cycle of mushrooms, countless spores are released from the fruiting bodies. The spores have significant implications in the food and medicine industries due to pharmacological effects attributed to their bioactive ingredients. Moreover, high concentration of mushroom spores can induce extrinsic allergic reactions in mushroom cultivation workers.

A Bibliometric Analysis on the Risk Factors of Cancer.

Genes Chromosomes Cancer

January 2025

School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford, UK.

Given the high lethality of cancer, identifying its risk factors is crucial in both epidemiology and cancer research. This study employs a novel bibliometric analysis method, which uses the tidytext package and tidy tools in R. This approach surpasses traditional tools like VOSviewer, offering more comprehensive and complex keyword data and clearer results compared to Bibliometrix.

One of the main drivers of fibrotic diseases is epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT): a transdifferentiation process in which cells undergo a phenotypic change from an epithelial state to a pro-migratory state. The cytokine transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) has been previously shown to regulate EMT. TGF-β1 binds to fibronectin (FN) fibrils, which are the primary extracellular matrix (ECM) component in renal fibrosis.

China is currently facing a notable decline in fertility rates. This research introduces a novel perspective on the factors influencing fertility among women of reproductive age, representing the first attempt to examine the impact of peer grit on female fertility. Analyzing nationally representative panel data from China and leveraging plausibly exogenous variations in peer exposure across cohorts, we find that peer grit is associated with a reduction in fertility behavior and intentions.
