Synergistic Enhancement of Ferroptosis via Mitochondrial Accumulation and Photodynamic-Controlled Release of an Organogold(I) Cluster Prodrug.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Bioorganic Phosphorus Chemistry and Chemical Biology (Ministry of Education), Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, P. R. China.

Effective delivery and controlled release of metallo-prodrugs with sustained activation and rapid response feed the needs of precise medicine in metal chemotherapeutics. However, gold-based anticancer drugs often suffer from detoxification binding and extracellular transfer by sulfur-containing peptides. To address this challenge, we integrate a thiol-activated prodrug strategy of newly prepared hypercoordinated carbon-centered gold(I) clusters (HCGCs) with their photosensitization character to augment the mitochondrial release of Au(I) in tumors.

Flexible deformation and special interface structure in nanoparticle-stabilized Pickering bubbles strengthen the immunological response as adjuvant.

J Mater Chem B

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Biopharmaceutical Preparation and Delivery, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, P. R. China.

Adjuvants can enhance an immunological response, which is an important part of vaccine research. Pickering bubbles have been a mega-hit for biomedical applications, including visualization and targeted drug delivery. However, there have been no studies on Pickering bubbles as an immunological adjuvant, and the special properties and structures of Pickering bubbles may play an important role in immunization.

Extracellular vesicles-a new player in the development of urinary bladder cancer.

Ther Adv Med Oncol

January 2025

Chair of Urology and Andrology, Department of Regenerative Medicine, Collegium Medicum, Nicolaus Copernicus University, Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Bladder cancer was the 10th most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide in 2020. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized membranous structures secreted by all types of cells into the extracellular space. EVs can transport proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids to specific target cells.

Spatial distribution-based progression of spinal cord injury pathology: a key role for neuroimmune cells.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Shanghai TCM-Integrated Hospital, Shanghai University of TCM, Department of Neurosurgery, Shanghai, China.

An external trauma, illness, or other pathological cause can harm the structure and function of the spinal cord, resulting in a significant neurological disorder known as spinal cord injury (SCI). In addition to impairing movement and sensory functions, spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers complex pathophysiological responses, with the spatial dynamics of immune cells playing a key role. The inflammatory response and subsequent healing processes following SCI are profoundly influenced by the spatial distribution and movement of immune cells.

Background: For many physical education teachers, being suddenly forced to switch from traditional face-to-face teaching to online teaching without adequate mental preparation posed numerous challenges and difficulties. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to validate the use of distance teaching behavior models for physical education teachers under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Method: The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model was employed to explore the use intention and use behavior of distance teaching.
