Two types of assessment were used in our evaluation of the long-term results of excisional MCP arthroplasty in the rheumatoid hand: a standard surgeon-patient assessment, and a functional test model applied to 17 rheumatoid hands before and after operation. The surgeon-patient overall assessment at the time of follow-up indicated satisfaction with the results in 15 of 17 hands, whereas the occupational therapists' objective functional testing indicated a less positive end result - improvement in 6 of the 17 hands and worsening in 8.The discrepancy need not negate the validity of either finding but would suggest that factors other than function as measured give patient satisfaction. These include such features as pain relief, ability to put on gloves again and improved appearance.

Synovial chondromatosis is a rare disorder characterized by cartilaginous growths within the joint lining, often confused with conditions like pigmented villonodular synovitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Primary treatment typically involves surgical synovectomy to remove the affected tissue and loose bodies. Documented cases are limited globally.

Aims: This study was performed to investigate the association between the acetabular morphology and the joint space narrowing rate (JSNR) in the non-arthritic hip.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed standing whole-leg radiographs of patients who underwent knee arthroplasty from February 2012 to March 2020 at our institute. Patients with a history of hip surgery, Kellgren-Lawrence grade ≥ II hip osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis were excluded.

Background: According to the conventional postoperative procedure after total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) for end-stage osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), mobilization and weight-bearing are currently started after completion of wound healing. Recently, an early rehabilitation program after cemented TAA with a modified anterolateral approach has been attempted because this approach could provide stable wound healing. To investigate the possibility of expediting rehabilitation, this study evaluated the feasibility, safety, and universality of an early rehabilitation program after cemented TAA using a modified anterolateral approach, even when a surgeon was completely changed.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis often leads to debilitating damage in the elbow joint, which may require total elbow arthroplasty (TEA). The Kudo TEA is one of the unlinked type prostheses with reportedly favorable outcomes. However, there is limited information available regarding its long-term performance.

Introduction: It is currently unclear whether patients with rheumatoid arthritis have similar functional outcomes after total hip arthroplasty (THA) as those with osteoarthritis, particularly given that rheumatoid arthritis may have systemic manifestations in terms of pain and function. The purpose of this study was to compare patient-reported outcome measures between patients with rheumatoid arthritis and matched control patients with osteoarthritis who underwent direct anterior THA.
Methods: All patients who underwent direct anterior THA from 2010 to 2022 at a single academic institution were retrospectively reviewed.
