Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders. Previous research has confirmed that isofraxidin can reduce macrophage expression and inhibit peripheral inflammation. However, its effects on the central nervous system remain underexplored.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the selective death of motor neurons in the spinal cord, brainstem, and motor cortex. This study investigates the effects of simvastatin on the G93A-copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (G93ASOD1) transgenic mouse model of ALS. The experiment included three groups: C57BL/6 wild-type (WT) mice, C57BL/6J SOD1G93A mice treated with PBS (SOD1G93A + PBS), and C57BL/6J SOD1G93A mice treated with simvastatin (SOD1G93A + simvastatin).

Neonatal hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) remains one of the major causes of neonatal death and long-term neurological disability. Due to its complex pathogenesis, there are still many challenges in its treatment. In our previous studies, we found that quercetin can alleviate neurological dysfunction after hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury (HIBI) in neonatal mice.

Article Synopsis
  • Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition marked by the loss of dopamine-producing neurons in a brain region called the substantia nigra, and traditional treatments don't halt its progression.
  • This study explored the use of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in mice with a PD-like condition, finding that VNS improved their behavior and reduced neuron loss and neuroinflammation.
  • Results suggest that VNS may help protect against PD by activating noradrenergic neurons in the locus coeruleus and increasing certain brain receptor expressions, hinting at a potential new treatment avenue for the disease.
