Optimal amounts of demineralized bone matrix possess the ability to coagulate platelet-free heparinized, citrated, and oxalated blood plasmas of guinea pigs. Clotting constituents become denatured in contact with the insoluble coagulant proteins. Quantities in excess of optimal modify plasma so that it does not gel when thrombin is added. The newly described coagulant effects are not restricted to the bone matrix, but are present also in the demineralized matrices of tooth and ivory, and in denatured tendon as well. They are regulated properties that were not demonstrated in mineralized bone or native tendon. The coagulant attributes of bone matrix are consistent with those of electropositive polymers of a specific sort.

Heterotopic ossification (HO) refers to the abnormal formation of bone in non-skeletal tissues. Fibroblasts have traditionally been viewed as stationary cells primarily responsible for producing extracellular matrix during tissue repair and fibrosis. However, recent discoveries regarding their plasticity-encompassing roles in inflammation, extracellular matrix remodeling, and osteogenesis-highlight their potential as key contributors to the development of HO.

Background: The 3D printing of macro- and mesoporous biomimetic grafts composed of polycaprolactone (PCL) infused with nanosized synthetic smectic clay is a promising innovation in biomaterials for bone tissue engineering (BTE). The main challenge lies in achieving a uniform distribution of nanoceramics across low to high concentrations within the polymer matrix while preserving mechanical properties and biological performance essential for successful osseointegration.
Methods: This study utilized 3D printing to fabricate PCL scaffolds enriched with nanosized synthetic smectic clay (LAP) to evaluate its effects on structural, chemical, thermal, mechanical, and degradative properties, with a focus on in vitro biological performance and non-toxicity.

Large bone defects are still a persistent challenge in orthopedics. The availability limitations and associated complications of autologous and allogeneic bone have prompted an increasing reliance on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In this study, we developed an injectable scaffold combining an acellular extracellular periosteal matrix hydrogel with poly(d,l-lactate--glycol-acetate) microspheres loaded with the E7 peptide and miR217 (miR217/E7@MP-GEL).

Failure of rotator cuff repairs contributes to decreased patient satisfaction and quality of life. Biologic enhancement of repairs represents a novel augmentation strategy attempting to reproduce native healing while concomitantly potentially decreasing the existing high failure rates associated with rotator cuff repairs. Scaffolds placed on top of the rotator cuff have been widely studied, yet no recreation of the native enthesis is achieved via this augmentation strategy.

Background: Modern reconstruction algorithms for computed tomography (CT) can exhibit nonlinear properties, including non-stationarity of noise and contrast dependence of both noise and spatial resolution. Model observers have been recommended as a tool for the task-based assessment of image quality (Samei E et al., Med Phys.
