The gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis, caused by the genus , is a common cause of diarrheal diseases in children, particularly in developing countries and frequently fatal in immunocompromised individuals. ()-specific bifunctional dihydrofolate reductase-thymidylate synthase (DHFR-TS) has been a molecular target for inhibitor design. (.

Eimeria tenella, an obligate intracellular apicomplexan parasite, is the major causative agent of chicken coccidiosis. Some epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain-containing proteins of other members of apicomplexan parasites have been reported to contribute to parasite survival. To date, however, EGF-like domain-containing proteins of E.

In the modern poultry industry, the application of novel phytogenic bioactive compounds with antioxidant potential aims to enhance productivity and quality and to minimize the stress of associated diseases. Herein, myricetin, a natural flavonoid, was evaluated for the first time on broiler chickens' performance, antioxidants and immune modulating functions, and tackling avian coccidiosis. A total of 500 one-day-old chicks were divided into five groups.

Schistosomes are complex platyhelminth parasites with a genome comprising ∼12,000 protein-coding genes, three distinct generations, and at least seven distinct phenotypes. We chart here cellular and gene expression changes associated with development of the cercaria, in the intramolluscan daughter sporocyst, and its transformation into the skin stage schistosomulum upon infection of the mammalian host. We describe the morphology of the early daughter sporocyst and the increasing complexity of cellular organisation in germ balls as they rapidly develop into cercariae.
