The herbal extracts of four traditional plants; namely leaves, fruits leaves, and seeds, were identified for their main constituents using UHPLC/QTOF-MS/MS. Then, a pharmacology-based analysis and molecular docking verification were established targeting the evaluation of each individual herbal extract for their antidiabetic/anti-obesity potential besides their safety. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were used to evaluate antiobesity and insulinotropic effects against insulin (10 U/Kg, IP) and metformin (100 mg/Kg, per oral) as standard regimens.

[Allelopathy: chemical communication between plants].

Biol Aujourdhui

Today, weed control in agricultural systems is largely based on the use of synthetic pesticides. However, the use of these compounds is increasingly controversial among farmers and consumers, who point to their harmful properties for human health and the environment. In this context, the development of eco-friendly agricultural approaches and practices is becoming essential, and allelopathy represents a promising solution.

Through biochemical transformation of host-derived bile acids (BAs), gut bacteria mediate host-microbe crosstalk and sit at the interface of nutrition, the microbiome, and disease. BAs play a crucial role in human health by facilitating the absorption of dietary lipophilic nutrients, interacting with hormone receptors to regulate host physiology, and shaping gut microbiota composition through antimicrobial activity. Bile acid deconjugation by bacterial bile salt hydrolase (BSH) has long been recognized as the first necessary BA modification required before further transformations can occur.

Objectives: Reporting the histological effects of chronic stress on certain oral tissues, as well as the capacity of Thymus vulgaris (thyme) to protect tissues from stress and link both serum cortisol and serotonin levels.

Methods: 30 rats were randomly divided into a trio of groups: normal control (no treatment), stress group (chronic stress without treatment), and treatment group (chronic stress treated with thyme at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW orally via needle gavage daily for 21 days). At the end of the experiment, tongues and major sublingual glands (SLGs) were surgically removed and processed for histological and histochemical studies.

NSUN6 inhibitor discovery guided by its mRNA substrate bound crystal structure.

Structure

January 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Innovative Institute of Tumor Immunity and Medicine (ITIM), Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Tumor Immune Microenvironment and Immunotherapy, The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Hefei 230022, China. Electronic address:

NSUN6 preferentially catalyzes the methylation of cytosine nucleotides in mRNA substrates, which enhances transcription. Dysregulation of NSUN6 catalysis drives the oncogenesis of certain cancers. In this study, we determined the crystal structure of human NSUN6 in complex with its S-adenosyl-L-methionine analog and a bound NECT-2 3'-UTR RNA substrate at 2.
