Body size declines are a common response to warming via both plasticity and evolution, but variable size responses have been observed for terrestrial ectotherms. We investigate how temperature-dependent development and growth rates in ectothermic organisms induce variation in size responses. Leveraging long-term data for six montane grasshopper species spanning 1,768-3 901 m, we detect size shifts since ~1960 that depend on elevation and species' seasonal timing.

Background: We previously reported that social restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to a decline in cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). Here, we assessed the effects of COVID-19 restrictions on the activities of daily living (ADL) and disease severity in patients by comparing them to a control group.

Methods: We examined the impact on ADL, evaluated using disability assessment for dementia (DAD), and disease severity, evaluated using the ABC dementia scale, in patients with mild-to-moderate AD.

Experimental support for partial compensation, not matched, partner response rules in blue tits.

Outcomes of theoretical models on conflict resolution between investing partners in bi-parental care systems typically predict "partial compensation" or "matched" response rules, depending on underlying assumptions. Further, although experimental tests in birds suggest that care levels by pair members are largely associated with partial compensation responses, this outcome partly depends on the type of experiment used and its effects on model assumptions. To elucidate support for both the underlying assumptions and predictions of models predicting partner compensation versus matching, we performed temporary, bi-directional brood size manipulations during late nestling provisioning in blue tits () in the French Pyrenees.

The creation of spatially coupled meso-/microenvironments with biomimetic compartmentalized functionalities is of great significance to achieve efficient signal transduction and amplification. Herein, using a soft-template strategy, UiO-67-type hierarchically mesoporous metal-organic frameworks (HMMOFs) were constructed to satisfy the requirements of such an artificial system. The key to the successful synthesis of HMUiO-67 is rooted in the utilization of the preformed cerium-oxo clusters as metal precursors, aligning the growth of MOF crystals with the mild conditions required for the self-assembly of the soft template.

During cochlear implant (CI) surgery, it is desirable to perform intraoperative measurements such as Electrocochleography (ECochG) to monitor the inner ear function and thereby to support the preservation of residual hearing. However, a significant challenge arises as the recording location of intracochlear ECochG via the CI electrode changes during electrode insertion. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between intracochlear ECochG recordings, the position of the recording contact within the cochlea relative to its anatomy, and the implications for frequency and residual hearing preservation.
