Influence of human urine on phagocytosis.

Curr Probl Clin Biochem

Published: August 1979

Human urine may inhibit or activate the phagocytosis by normal human blood of latex, zymosan and inuline. No specific difference was found between the urine of normals and patients with moderate, severe or end stage renal failure. The inhibiting effect was not due to urea or creatinine; the assumption is made that a middle molecular fraction D, which can be isolated by Sephadex G 15 columnchromatography from uraemic ultrafiltrate, is responsible for the observed inhibition. Urines of patients with significant bacteriuria were more frequently activating.

Background Urinary incontinence is a significant health problem with physical, social, economic, and psychological consequences for patients and their quality of life. The aim of our study is to determine the impact of urinary incontinence on the quality of life and to identify its determinants in patients with this condition. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was carried out in the diagnostic center of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) Hassan II in Fez, Morocco, between June and September 2019.

Leiomyomas are benign tumors of the female genital tract, usually arising from the uterus. Vaginal leiomyomas are extremely rare. We describe here a case of vaginal leiomyoma in a 28-year-old unmarried woman who presented with excessive vaginal bleeding and acute retention of urine.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as pembrolizumab, have revolutionized cancer therapy but can lead to severe immune-related adverse events (irAEs). We present a case of fulminant type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and mesenteric ischemia in a 78-year-old woman with recurrent stage IIIC1 cervical cancer treated with pembrolizumab. Thirty-four days after initiating a pembrolizumab-containing regimen, she presented with vomiting, severe hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, and strongly positive urine ketones.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as any involuntary loss of urine and can be associated with urgency and/or physical exertion. Electrical stimulation (ES) has recently been identified as a proven therapeutic alternative for UI, with few side effects and low cost. This systematic review, registered on the Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (RD42024528812), investigated whether home-based ES would be as viable as outpatient ES in the treatment of women with UI.

Variable power functional dilution adjustment of spot urine.

Praxis Dr.Carmine, Etzelstrasse 21, Pfaeffikon SZ, 8808, Switzerland.

Spot-urinary biomarkers are crucial in medical, epidemiological, and environmental studies, but their variability due to hydration levels requires precise dilution adjustments. Traditional methods, like conventional creatinine correction (CCRC), are limited in compensating for variations in urine concentration, causing substantial inconsistencies, particularly at the extremes of the diuresis spectrum. While restricting the creatinine (CRN) range to 0.
