Collaborative interfacial shear capacity of adhesive bonding and novel shooting nail for steel plate strengthening concrete structures.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Reserch Institute of Urbanization and Urban Safety, School of Civil and Resource Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing, 100083, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The novel "shooting nail" fastening method enhances the reinforcement of concrete structures by using bonding steel plates, leading to improved construction efficiency over traditional chemical anchor bolts.
  • Experimental studies and finite element analysis (FEA) were conducted to investigate the interfacial shear capacity when combining adhesive bonding with shooting nail fastening, considering various factors like concrete strength and nail spacing.
  • A new theoretical calculation approach for interfacial shear capacity was developed, integrating the effects of both adhesive bonding and shooting nail fastening to better understand their collaborative contributions.

Do two distal locking screws in two planes offer the best option in the nailing of diaphyseal tibial fractures?

J Clin Orthop Trauma

December 2024

Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Department, British Hospital of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Argentina, Perdriel 74, C1280 AEB, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Background: Although the intramedullary nail represents the treatment for most tibia diaphyseal fractures, there is no agreement on the configuration of the distal locking screws. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of the configuration of distal locking bolts on the healing of a tibial shaft fracture.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 170 closed fractures of the tibia diaphyseal operated consecutively between 2018 and 2021.

Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) is frequently utilized as a bolted joint material in aircraft applications because of its high specific strength and specific modulus. Therefore, the performance of CFRP under -50° is significant. Here, we discuss the specimens of two bolted connections (single-nailed and double-nailed) used for static load tensile and tensile fatigue tests.

Introduction: Intramedullary nailing is a commonly performed surgery for tibia diaphysis fractures. However, in selected cases, this procedure can get complicated with rotational malalignment if not checked carefully intra-operatively.

Case Report: A 29 year-old male sustained polytrauma and was treated with intramedullary nailing for bilateral femur and right-side tibia fractures.
