Kinetic Control of Self-Assembly Pathway in Dual Dynamic Covalent Polymeric Systems.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

East China University of Science and Technology, School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Meilong Road 130, 200237, Shanghai, CHINA.

Kinetically controlled self-assembly is garnering increasing interest in the field of supramolecular polymers and materials, yet examples involving dynamic covalent exchange remain relatively unexplored. Here we report an unexpected dynamic covalent polymeric system whose aqueous self-assembly pathway is strongly influenced by the kinetics of evaporation of water. The key design is to integrate dual dynamic covalent bonds-including disulfide bonds and boroxine/borate-into a dynamic equilibrium system of monomers, polymers, and materials.

Pectin is an acidic heteropolysaccharide with natural, green, and inexpensive characteristics. Compared to polysaccharides, oligosaccharides are more easily utilized by the body, and the physiological function of hawthorn pectin oligosaccharides (POS) may vary depending on their degree of polymerization (DP). Therefore, we mainly studied the effects of hawthorn pectin (HP) and POS with different DP on gut microbiota disorders induced by high-fat diet (HFD).

Polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) membranes, with advantageous features of versatile chemistry and structures, are driving the development of advanced nanofiltration (NF) membranes with exceptional performance. While developing a printing method holds great promise for the eventual mass production of these membranes, reports on the printing method and the underlying mechanisms of membrane formation are currently scarce. Herein, we develop an aerosol-assisted printing (AAP) system for fabricating PEM NF membranes with highly tunable separation characteristics.

With the rapid advancement of information technology, the need to achieve ultra-high-density data storage has become a pressing necessity. This study synthesized three hyperbranched polyimides (HBPI-TAPP, HBPI-(Zn)TAPP, and HBPI-(Cu)TAPP) by polymerizing 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin (TAPP), which features a cavity for metal ion coordination, with 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA), to systematically investigate the effect of metal ion species on storage performance. According to the results, memory devices based on HBPI-(Zn)TAPP exhibit volatile SRAM (static random-access memory) characteristics, whereas devices employing HBPI-TAPP and HBPI-(Cu)TAPP demonstrate non-volatile WORM (write-once, read-many) characteristics.
