The present study explores the microbial community associated with the industrially important red seaweed Gracilaria dura to determine the diversity and biotechnological potential through culture and metagenomics approaches. In the first part of the investigation, we isolated and characterized 75 bacterial morphotypes, with varied colony characteristics and metabolic diversity from the wild seaweed. Phylogenetic analysis identified isolates in Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria, with Bacillus sp.

Oppositely charged species can form electrostatic interactions in aqueous solution, and these may lead to reduced solubility of the interacting components. Herein, insoluble complex formation between the lipophilic weakly basic drugs, cinnarizine or loratadine, and the enteric polymer, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS), was studied and used to better understand drug and polymer release from their corresponding amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs). Surface area normalized release experiments were performed at various pH conditions for three different grades of HPMCAS, LF, MF and HF, as well as their ASDs.

There is a growing pharmaceutical interest in supersaturated lipid-based formulations (Super-LbF) as an innovative strategy to enhance drug loading capacities while simultaneously reducing pill burden. This approach involves increasing the drug concentration above its equilibrium solubility in a lipid solution, achieved through temperature-induced supersaturation or the dissolution of lipophilic ionic salts. However, the physical instability and potential drug precipitation upon the dispersion of LbF remain critical.

Cocrystals easily undergo solution-mediated phase transformation at the surface of dissolving cocrystals during dissolution, which significantly deteriorates the solubility advantage of cocrystals. Here, a new scenario for the phase transformation of liquiritigenin (LQ) cocrystals in which the boundary of phase transformation diffuses along the surface to the bulk of the cocrystal was identified. Additionally, depending on the rate of supersaturation generation, phase transformation processes to the anhydrate and hydrate of LQ compete during cocrystal dissolution.
